GAD1 and Alzheimer disease: ICC analysis at day 70 of AD and control neural cultures revealed the presence of proteins related to distinct subtypes of mature neurons: markers of cholinergic neurons (vesicular acetylcholine transporter [VACHT]), dopaminergic neurons (tyrosine hydroxylase [TH]), GABAergic (glutamic acid decarboxylases 2 and 1 [GAD2/GAD1]), and glutamatergic neurons (vesicular glutamate transporter 1/2 [VGLUT1/2]) (Fig. 2b).
