INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus: Based on the clinical and biochemical characteristics of the individuals from the CURES study as illustrated in Table 1, individuals with T2D were older (P<0.0001), had higher BMI (P<0.0001), waist circumference (P<0.0001), fasting plasma glucose (P<0.0001), HbA1c (P<0.0001), fasting plasma insulin (P<0.0001), systolic and diastolic blood pressure (P<0.0001), low density and very low density lipoproteins (P<0.0001), total cholesterol (P<0.0001), TG (P<0.0001) and lower high density lipoprotein (P = 0.001) than NGT individuals.
