Indeed, it was demonstrated that TRIM8 is a p53 direct target gene, and by a positive feedback loop, TRIM8 is able to potentiate the p53 tumour suppressor activity, controlling the molecular switch that directs p53 toward the transcriptional activation of cell cycle arrest and DNA repair genes, such as p21 and GADD45A, leading to the suppression of cell proliferation.
