The increase in the circulating level of the complex S100A8/9 over time (Delta from Day 0 to Day 5 value; Fig. 2) was significantly smaller in patients developing infection (Fig. 2; Median, 7.6 vs 40.1 mcg/mL, p = 0.011; Mann-Whitney); baseline values (Day 0) were not different for those developing an infection from the other patients (Median, 20.9 vs 27.7 mcg/mL, p = 0.79). This evidence concerns the gene S100A8 and infection.
