Interestingly, while TRIP8b−/− mice were largely phenotypically normal during initial behavioral screening (Lewis et al. 2011), they did exhibit significantly impaired nest building, an established endophenotype for schizophrenia (Amann et al. 2010), raising the possibility that reduced thalamocortical HCN channel function may recapitulate some features of this disorder. This evidence concerns the gene PEX5L and schizophrenia.
