Indeed, patients affected by vitiligo show circulating autoantibodies directed toward specific melanocyte antigens such as TYR, tyrosinase-related protein-1 (TRP-1), TRP-2, Pmel17 (or gp100), and type 1 membrane receptor for melanin-concentrating hormone, whose serum level correlates with the disease severity (11, 31–36). The gene discussed is PMEL; the disease is vitiligo.
