Expression of STING was shown to be up regulated and activated in HPV+ tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) samples and activated STING promoted the induction of several immunosuppressive cytokines and chemokines, e.g., IL-10, CCL22, etc., that facilitated regulatory T cells (Tregs) infiltration and thereby helped in carcinogenesis by affecting anti-cancer immune response [57].
