MFAP2 and infection: Taking into consideration the observed lysis defect and that: (i) LysB is produced at a late stage of the infection cycle as other lysis proteins, (ii) this protein is a lipolytic enzyme that cleaves the linkage of the mycobacterial OM to the mAGP complex; we hypothesize that the reduced burst size results from a release defect and not from a reduction in the number of synthesized phage particles.
