CML is characterized by the presence of the Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome, a shortened 22 chromosome resulting from a (9;22) (q34;q11) reciprocal translocation that juxtaposes the c-abl oncogene 1 (ABL1) gene on chromosome 9 with the breakpoint cluster region (BCR) gene on chromosome 22 [4]. This evidence concerns the gene ABL1 and chronic myelogenous leukemia, BCR-ABL1 positive.
