FUCA1 and gastric cancer: Next to its role in lysosomal turnover of fucosylated substrates, FUCA1 is also involved in sperm transport and sperm–egg interactions.10 FUCA1 activity levels are considered to be a biomarker for cellular senescence11 as well as for the diagnosis of hepatocellular cancers.12 Deficiency of human FUCA2 has been shown to protect against Helicobacter pylori adhesion to gastric cancer cells.8
