We found that IL-6 production was significantly increased in the L-OP, L-OR, M-OP groups, and similar results have also been described in other high-lard-induced obesity studies in mice [78], suggesting that IL-6 could serve as a marker of high-fat diet intake in epididymal adipose depots. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
