CAMK2A, as an example of a rare SV‐eQTL, is a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the calcium/calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase superfamily and has in numerous studies been shown to modulate calcium handling and signaling, for example, Wnt signaling, and is associated with different forms of cardiomyopathies (Little et al, 2009; Toko et al, 2010; Zhang et al, 2015). This evidence concerns the gene CAMK2A and cardiomyopathy.
