A highly specific digital PCR method has been used to sequence the plasma cfDNA of pancreatic cancer patients with known KRAS mutations, finding KRAS mutations in the plasma of 30/34 (88%) patients with metastatic disease and 59/121 (49%) patients with localized disease (precision could not be evaluated because all patients had KRAS mutations) [23].
