BCL2 and cancer: The results indicated that aptamer AS1411 could efficiently inhibit the growth of MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells (but not that of normal mammary epithelial cells), decrease the half-life of Bcl-2 mRNA in cancer cells, and inhibit nucleolin binding to the AU-rich element 1 in Bcl-2 mRNA, promoting mRNA destabilization.
