CXCL8 has been shown to promote angiogenesis and consequent fibrosis [46] and additionally the levels of CXCL8 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were found to be increased in SSc patients with interstitial lung disease [47] and in other fibrotic diseases, such as combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema [48]. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and pulmonary emphysema.
