Most of the 22 DEGs that were upregulated throughout infection in monocytes (Figure 2A) were interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) important in anti-viral defense (37), notably GBP1 (Guanylate Binding Protein 1), OAS2 (2′-5′-Oligoadenylate Synthetase 2), MX1 (MX Dynamin-Like GTPase 1), and IFIT1–3 (Interferon-Induced Protein with Tetratricopeptide Repeats 1–3) (Figure 2C). This evidence concerns the gene GBP1 and infection.
