Anoactin-1 (ANO1, TMEM16A, DOG1) was initially identified as a component of the chr11q13 chromosomal band that is frequently amplified in HNSCC, bladder, and breast cancer8–10 and has recently been characterized as a calcium-activated chloride channel (CaCC)11. This evidence concerns the gene ANO1 and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
