Mice deficient in Nlrp3, Nlrc4, IL-1β, Casp1/11, and Asc, when challenged by DSS, have all shown increased susceptibility to colitis, disease exacerbation, frequent mortality, and increased tumor formation when compared to DSS challenged wild type mice, suggesting these components aid in colitis protection [103,104,105,106,107,108,109]. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and colitis.
