TSPO PET imaging did not provide unequivocal results [85, 100] and in front of some limitations (e.g., multicellular expression of TSPO in human lungs [89, 90], high variability in radiotracer uptake between COPD and asthmatic patients, and wide overlap between patients and controls [100]), TSPO did not seem to be a timely biomarker to diagnose and even less to improve our knowledge in lung disease pathophysiology. This evidence concerns the gene TSPO and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
