TLR2 and pulmonary tuberculosis: Immunophenotyping of sputum macrophages from three tuberculosis diagnostic groups showed that (i) macrophages in sputum expressed both M1 and M2 polarization markers, thus recapitulating the simultaneous presence of M1 and M2 phenotypes of alveolar and granuloma macrophages in pulmonary tuberculosis (26, –, 29), and (ii) among the markers tested, only TLR2 exhibited a statistically significant trend of increased abundance across the three diagnostic groups.
