We report that TLR2 engagement impairs the anti-inflammatory activity of M2-like macrophages derived from healthy or RA monocytes without changing the expression profile of the conventional M2 cell surface markers CD14 and CD163, but altering the expression of M2-specific gene markers HMOX1, FOLR2, and SLC40A1 toward an M1-specific profile. This evidence concerns the gene CD14 and rheumatoid arthritis.
