In a post-hoc analysis of the Reduction of Endpoints in Non-Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus With the Angiotensin II Antagonist Losartan (RENAAL) Study (1342 participants with diabetic nephropathy; median follow-up, 3.4 years) [22], the researchers found that each 0.5 mg/dL reduction in serum uric acid concentration was associated with a 6% (95% CI: 3–10) reduction in the risk of either doubling serum creatinine or onset of ESRD. This evidence concerns the gene AGT and diabetic kidney disease.
