Indeed, following the systemic transplantation of wild-type hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) in the mouse model of cystinosis, Ctns−/− mice, HSPCs differentiate into macrophages and generate TNTs that transfer cystinosis-bearing lysosomes to the adjacent disease cells, leading to long-term kidney preservation (Naphade et al., 2015).
