Moribe and colleagues used a gene microarray and pyrosequencing to screen genes that are methylated specifically in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and found that BASP1 is aberrantly methylated in HCC; its expression is low in HCC, and it can function as a useful biomarker for the diagnosis of HCC [12]. This evidence concerns the gene BASP1 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
