To determine whether NY-ESO-1 promoter hypermethylation is prognostic and/or predictive of lung cancer patient survival or response to chemotherapy, univariate Cox regression analysis was performed and demonstrated a significant association with poorer survival (HR 2.52, 95% CI: 1.14 – 5.58, P = 0.022) in tumours with low NY-ESO-1 methylation when no adjuvant chemotherapy was used (Figure 4A and Supplementary Table 4).
