The finding of increased angiopoietin-2 plasma levels in AD patients is in accordance with the study of Thirumangalakudi et al. [66], who showed that angiopoietin-2 is expressed by AD, but not control-derived microvessels, supporting the idea of targeting the angiogenic changes in the microcirculation of the AD brain as a potential therapeutic approach in AD [67].
