We have previously reported that the natural flavone acacetin from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Xuelianhua (Saussurea involucrata) prolongs the atrial effective refractory period and prevents or terminates the experimentally induced AF in anesthetized dogs without increasing the QT interval (Li et al., 2008; Liu et al., 2016) by inhibiting atrial IKur (ultra-rapidly activating delayed rectifier potassium current) or Kv1.5, IK.ACh (acetylcholine-activated potassium current), and Ito (transient outward potassium current) (Wu et al., 2011, 2013a). This evidence concerns the gene KCNA5 and atrial fibrillation.
