BDKRB2 and infective endocarditis: We propose the following scenario to explain how Sgg triggers infective endocarditis: (I) survival and multiplication of Sgg in human blood after entering the bloodstream (II) activation of cellular components of the coagulation cascade and induction of a procoagulant state (III) adherence to collagen on heart valves mediated by Pil112 (IV) binding and activation of contact factors at the bacterial surface (V) bradykinin release and binding of bradykinin to its receptor B2R may trigger infective endocarditis.
