Conversely, subjects with stable HLA-C allotypes (HLA-C*02, -*05, -*06, -*08, -*12, -*15, and -*16) are characterized by the presence of a greater proportion of heterotrimers (HLA-C/β2m/peptide) on the cell membrane, which may stimulate cellular immunity and, consequently, determine better control of HIV-1 infection. This evidence concerns the gene HLA-C and HIV-1 infection.
