Although the downstream target(s) of E-cadherin in controlling anoikis sensitivity in human bronchial epithelial and lung cancer cells remains to be studied, these collective studies underscore E-cadherin as a multifunctional protein whose downregulation may confer several phenotypic changes including anoikis resistance which is a determinant of tumorigenesis and cancer progression. The gene discussed is CDH1; the disease is lung carcinoma.
