In fact, studies of the methylation of candidate genes in animal and human models have demonstrated methylation changes in promoters of several genes that are involved in obesity, appetite control, and/or metabolism [8], namely, the beta-3 adrenergic receptor (ADRB3), which responds to noradrenaline and mediates lipolysis in adipocytes [9]. The gene discussed is ADRB3; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
