The male infertility associated with the deletion of PP1γ is not necessarily due to a deficient function of PP1-NIPP1 but is probably caused by the loss of unique holoenzyme complexes between the splice variant PP1γ2 and PP1γ2-specific regulatory proteins in late-meiotic (pachytene spermatocytes) and post-meiotic germ cells55–57. This evidence concerns the gene PPP1R8 and male infertility.
