Liu et al.12 studied a mouse model with T2D induced by a high-fat diet, and reported a decrease in the microtubule-associated protein-1 light chain-3 (LC3-II/LC3-I) ratio, a primary marker of autophagic activity, an increase in p62, and a decrease in vacuolar protein sorting 34 (PS34), autophagy-related gene 12 (ATG12), and GABA receptor-associated protein-like 1 gene (GABARAPL1), which are involved in autophagy. This evidence concerns the gene SQSTM1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
