Despite the reported association of the IFN gene expression “signature” with disease activity in SLE [28, 29], we did not confirm either elevated levels of the IFN-regulated chemokines CCL8, CXCL9, CXCL10 or strong correlation of the IFN protein “signature” with disease activity at the protein level in the sera of our patients. This evidence concerns the gene IFNA1 and systemic lupus erythematosus.
