Cho et al.18 have reported that β-amyloid protein stimulates NO production and cause S-nitrosylation of Drp1 at Cys644 within the GED domain, which enhances GTPase activity and Drp1 oligomerization in association with excessive mitochondrial fission in the brains of Alzheimer’s disease patient. The gene discussed is DNM1L; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
