A prospective study in Hong Kong reported that addition of FGF-21 to a diabetes prediction model comprising of age, family history of type 2 diabetes, smoking, hypertension, BMI, dyslipidemia and fasting glucose showed statistically significant improvement in AUC from 0.797 to 0.819, and its performance in diabetes prediction is comparable to the OGTT [8]. This evidence concerns the gene FGF21 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
