To determine whether the cells where TAU is hyperphosphorylated undergo apoptosis, we performed TUNEL staining and found that the overall levels of cell death in dTg animals is not significantly different than sTg animals (Fig. 1q), while our previously established AD model of adult zebrafish brain shows extensive cell death (Supplementary Fig. 9), which is also confirmed by unchanged relative expression levels of apoptotic regulator Caspase 3 (Supplementary Fig. 9i).
