Apart from choice due to gene function, IL-1β RNA was chosen for analysis because it encoded a hub in the interactome (Fig. 5), VTCN1 and DSG1 were chosen as representatives of very highly significantly altered RNAs, KRT10 was chosen as a differentiation marker, KDR was chosen as an RNA potentially involved in cancer formation, and SERPINB3 was chosen because it was an early identified cervical cancer marker (39). The gene discussed is VTCN1; the disease is cervical carcinoma.
