A recent report correlated increased HIV replication with decreased PCNA, Otub1, and dysregulation of the Akt‐mTOR pathway in infected CD4+ T cells.54 Mtb‐HIV coinfected individuals are at high risk of developing TB.55 Finding similar changes in the CD4+ T‐cell proteome by two different pathogens supports the importance of the Akt‐mTOR signaling pathway in antimicrobial defenses and its vulnerability to microbial attack. This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and tuberculosis.
