A recent report correlated increased HIV replication with decreased PCNA, Otub1, and dysregulation of the Akt‐mTOR pathway in infected CD4+ T cells.54 Mtb‐HIV coinfected individuals are at high risk of developing TB.55 Finding similar changes in the CD4+ T‐cell proteome by two different pathogens supports the importance of the Akt‐mTOR signaling pathway in antimicrobial defenses and its vulnerability to microbial attack.
