Linear regression analysis demonstrated a strong correlation between the hepatic VPC/VCS ratio measured with PINTA and that generated with our previously established ex vivo NMR method1, 10 (R2 = 0.99, slope = 0.98) in seven different groups of rats: (1) chow-fed rats; (2) high-fat-fed rats; (3) rats undergoing a hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp to mimic postprandial hyperinsulinemia, and rats treated with: (4) glucagon; (5) epinephrine; (6) malic enzyme (ME) inhibitor; and (7) CRMP to promote increased hepatic mitochondrial oxidation (Fig. 1). This evidence concerns the gene GCG and Hyperinsulinemia.
