ABCA4 and retinitis pigmentosa 1: Matsui et al. carefully detail how the phenotypes of their five ABCA4 cases are different from typical Stargardt disease with foveal sparing (e.g., no flecks, larger remaining central island of vision); nonetheless, subtle differences in inclusion criteria of mild, macula-predominant cases whose phenotype falls in between that of typical Stargardt disease and typical RP probably explain the differences observed genotypes.
