Chronic vascular inflammation is an important event in the initiation, development and progression of cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, atherosclerosis and abdominal aortic aneurysm.5, 6, 7 The low-grade inflammation has been proposed to play a key role in humans and experimental models during the development of hypertension.8, 9 Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is a cytosolic complex for early inflammatory responses. Here, NLRP3 is linked to atherosclerosis.
