CD47 and cancer: The anti-CD47 antibody has been suggested to induce phagocytosis by several potential mechanisms: 1) induction of phosphatidylserine exposure and/or apoptosis in the cancer cells by activating CD47 signalling, 2) blocking the ‘don’t-eat-me’ function of CD47, enabling phagocytosis, 3) induction of antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) and/or 4) induction of cell death by phagocytosis.
