It has extensively been studied that MSC secrete a myriad of factors that are in charge of the immunoregulatory effects; among them, the TNF-α stimulated gene/protein 6 (TSG-6) is proposed as a key molecule in diminishing acute inflammation in different disease models such as corneal injury, peritonitis induced by yeast zymosan, bleomycin-induced lung injury and in preventing acute allogenic corneal rejection13. This evidence concerns the gene TNFAIP6 and injury.
