In the field of depression, we showed in five different models of depression that deletion of kcnk2 gene, which encodes for TREK-1 channels results in a depression-resistant phenotype associated with an enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission and an increased neurogenesis in the hippocampus (Heurteaux et al., 2006). The gene discussed is KCNK2; the disease is depressive disorder.
