In the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of hypertensive male patients with type 2 diabetes, daily oral supplementation with grape seed extract rich in resveratrol for a year increased the expression of miR-21, miR-181b, miR-663, miR-30c2, miR-155 and miR-34a and thereby reduced the levels of their target pro-inflammatory cytokines C-C motif chemokine ligand 3 (CCl3), IL-1β and TNF-α (Tomé-Carneiro et al., 2013). The gene discussed is CCL3; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
