An immunohistochemical analysis to detect the CAM5.2 and E-cadherin epithelial markers in the same specimens showed that IL-6 mRNA-positive cells were not only found in mesenchymal cells (Figure S5C,D; arrowhead) but also in cancer cells (Figs 5C, S5C,D; red circle)—specifically, primary lung cancer tissues and a pulmonary metastasis lesion (Figure S5D). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and lung carcinoma.
