It is not thus surprising that (as shown by several studies) the Nrf2 signaling pathway is constitutively activated in various types of cancer; one of the factors that drive Nrf2 activation in tumors is the accumulation of the p62/SQSTM1 (Sequestosome-1) protein that disrupts the association of the Keap1–Nrf2 complex [111].
