Reports of EAAT expression in schizophrenia vary based on the region and substrate being measured.179 For example, EAAT2 mRNA, protein and activity were increased in the prefrontal cortex (Brodmann area 9 and 10),192 but others reported decreased mRNA,193 or no change in mRNA or protein in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC).174 In other brain regions examined, there appears to be an overall reduction in EAAT expression.
