LAG3 and autoimmune disease: This receptor gauges the magnitude of the immune response elicited, in much the same way as it occurs with other immune-checkpoint receptors, e.g. PD1, TIM3, CTLA4, etc. However, contrary to other immune-checkpoints, LAG3 is also a desirable therapeutic target to modulate the immune response either to potentiate it as for instance in cancer immunotherapy, or to ameliorate it as in the case of autoimmune diseases [10–11].
